Masoor Dal (Red Lentil Curry)


  • 1 cup masoor dal (red lentils)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste


  1. Rinse and cook masoor dal with water, turmeric, chopped tomatoes, onion, and ginger-garlic paste until soft and cooked.
  2. In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Add coriander powder, red chili powder, and sauté briefly.
  3. Combine the dal with the spice mixture. Simmer for a few more minutes, adding garam masala and salt to taste.
